Avoid hurricane season with bareboat yacht charters in Cape Verde islands!
You can now enjoy bareboat yacht charter in Cape Verde with Sun Odyssey 519 sailboat:
The CAPE VERDE is known as remote islands off the West African coastline, some 6h flying from European airports. The charter base is located on Sao Vicente with international flights landing at Sal. Additional flight is therefore required unless pick up and drop off on Sal is agreed. The great variety and diversity of islands, from barren to tropical green is what defines the islands, on top of their unique culture and climate. Each island is likely to be different, from Santa Luzia which is mainly sandy with miles of beaches to Brava which is known as flower islands and to Fogo which has an almost 10,000ft high vulcano.
A typical one week sailing itinerary would only take you around main island of San Vicente where the charter base is located to Santo Antao, St Luzia and probably Sao Nicolau as long as weather prediction is great. Both Vista and Sal on the Eastern side and Brava, Fogo, Santiago and Maio can really only be accessed on a longer term charter which ideally will take at least 3 weeks. A two week itinerary could however include Sao Vicente, St Lucia, Santiago, Fogo, Brava and maybe Sao Nicolau if two longer overnigth crossings of 80nm (between Sao Nicolau and Santiago) and 125nm (between Fogo and Sao Vicente) are considered. In all cases, you can expect challenging sailing condition with steady winds (moderate in the summer), but also pleasant climate all year round.
In terms of islands, the most developed is certainly Sao Vicente and you are likely to spend most of the time here. Music festivals are regular here, with Baia de Gatas Festival in August and the Carnival of Mindelo, which is full of influences from Rio Carnival, which takes place during February. Apart from the obvious, you can also plan a lot of hiking and exploring on the islands. On Boavista, many prefer extensive walks as the island is very flat, while rich flora and fauna for example and snorkelling and even diving is very famous on island of Sal. As the biggest one, island of Santiago should not be missed out on, in particular on a longer-term sailing adventure as provisions are best here, given that agriculture is written large here and twice weekly, you can buy the best and freshest in local markets; the Tarrafal one being the best for both fruits and vegetables as well as souvenirs and local embroideries or potteries. Hiking and walking tours are also ideal with views from village Serra reported to be breathtaking.
Flights are best booked from Lisbon or through Amsterdam, with additional flights from SAL - SAO VICENTE being bookable through our office. Apart from the regular charter fee, which start from 3,050 Eur on this Sun Odyssey 519, you will also need to pay local base fee of around 150 Eur. WiFi is available from 30 Eur/week, inverter (12/230V) at 12 Eur/week, towels at 5 Eur/set and bed linen at 5 Eur/set. Skippers are relatively affordable and from 150 Eur/day while insurance deposit is likely to be around 4,000 Eur (fully refundable).
